The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on Wednesday that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has won the bid to host the 2034 World Cup during an extraordinary general assembly (congress) meeting held virtually.
Saudi Arabia will become the first country in history to host the largest edition of the World Cup, which will feature the participation of 48 national teams across five cities. This change comes after FIFA approved a new system for the tournament, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized the Kingdom’s strong commitment to contribute effectively to the development of football worldwide and to promote messages of love, peace, and tolerance. He expressed confidence in the Kingdom’s capabilities and the determination of its people to overcome challenges, which ultimately led to their successful bid to host the World Cup.
